Rain Barrel Road Show

Local artists are turning rain barrels into works of art for the 1st Annual Rain Barrel Road Show! These decorated rain barrels will be displayed at businesses throughout Van Buren County during the summer of 2011 and will then be sold in an online auction as a fundraiser for the Van Buren Conservation District.

What is a rain barrel? Rain barrels collect and store water that runs off your roof in a rainstorm - rain that would normally run down your gutters, through your lawn, driveway, road or parking lot and into the nearest storm drain, stream or river.  This runoff is a major source of water pollution because it carries pollutants like pet waste, pesticides, motor oil and other chemicals into nearby waterways. Rain barrels reduce this runoff and provide you with clean water you can reuse on your lawn and gardens.
