The VBCD is excited to be joining the Birds & Blooms event at the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery!
We are joining local groups in a fun event celebrating winter birds and blooms with fun activities and information for all ages. There will be coffee, hot cocoa, and cookies. Join us for a fun event and check out the other fun things happening at the hatchery this day!
Birds & Blooms:
- Make pine cone bird feeders
- Decorate kid-friendly, handmade binoculars
- Native plant information
- Locally made birdhouses for sale
- The Great Backyard Bird Count (see below)
- And more!
Attendees are welcome to join the Great Outdoor Bird Count at the hatchery from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Birding leaders will guide groups across the hatchery grounds to record and count the birds that are seen. These observation help bird conservation before their annual migration. And you get to see some beautiful birds!
These events are free and open to the public. No registration necessary. We encourage you to dress for the weather, especially if joining the Great Backyard Bird Count and Lantern-lit Walk. This event is in partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the Friends of the Wolf Lake State Fish Hatchery, Kalamazoo in Bloom, Kalamazoo Area Wild Ones, the Audubon Society of Kalamazoo, and the Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy.
