Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and recent uptick in cases in Michigan, the Van Buren Conservation District is primarily working from home. The mission of the Van Buren Conservation District is to promote the conservation of natural resources.
Board Meetings are open to the public and are the fourth Wednesday of each month, unless otherwise noted. The meetings start at 10:00 AM at the VBCD office (1035 E Michigan Ave., Paw Paw, MI 49079), unless otherwise noted.
We invite volunteers to join us Sunday, September 18th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM for our Kal-Haven Trail Clean Up event! We will meet at the Kal-Haven Trail Sesquicentennial State Park (take Blue Star Hwy North of Phoenix Rd., turn to take E Wells St. West, and exit the roundabout on the first right to head North onto Bailey Ave.) parking lot in South Haven and start picking up trash from there. The Van Buren Conservation District (VBCD) is holding a Fall Field Day focused on nutrient efficiency for growers on September 7th from 9:00 AM to noon at Kolberg Family Farms (56958 68th Ave., Lawrence, MI 49064). Join us at VBDL Gobles Branch on August 2nd 10:30AM to 12:30PM for a hike on the Kal-Haven State Trail with a naturalist. See nature through a naturalist's eye! The naturalist will talk about all the life around you in a way you might not have experienced before. We will meet at VBDL Gobles Branch and walk to the Kal-Haven Trail. As always, dress for the weather and bring appropriate footwear. We are excited to see you there!

The Van Buren Conservation District (VBCD) is holding a MAEAP Fruit Field Day for fruit growers on August 10th from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Oxley Farms (29001 CR 358, Lawton, MI 49065). Attendees can expect free dinner and refreshments. The MAEAP Fruit Field Day brings together speakers from the VBCD who will discuss a wide range of topics concerning fruit farmers. Some topics that will be presented are the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP), cover crops in fruit rows, Farm Bill cost-share opportunities, pesticide container recycling, and how to prevent the invasive species Spotted Lantern Fly. “By bringing farmers together with good food and hands-on learning, we hope to initiate changes to their farming practices,” said MAEAP Technician Kyle Mead of the VBCD. Kyle Mead brings 18 years of conservation experience to Van Buren County to assist farmers.
