Free Nitrogen Well Water Screening
August 12 @ 8:00 am - August 16 @ 4:30 pmFree
The Van Buren Conservation District and the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) are hosting a free Nitrate/Nitrite well water screening for Van Buren Residents. This event is for private well owners only, as municipalities and public wells are already tested by their owners. Samples can be brought to the Conservation District at 1035 E. Michigan Ave, Paw Paw, MI 49079. Samples need to be in a clean container (hand washed, no need to boil/sanitize) and kept cool until they are delivered to the District office. Samples should be fresh, less than 24 hours old. Baby food jars, small Tupperware containers, old water bottles, mason jar, and pasta sauce jars all work great!
To sample, run an untreated, unfiltered sampling point, such as an outdoor spigott or faucet without a filter, for at least 20 minutes to empty any pressure tanks and cycle fresh water from the well into the system. Fill the cleaned container, keep sample cool and deliver to the district within 24 hours. Please label samples with name and address. There will also be a small survey so that your test results can be sent back to you.
The Van Buren Conservation District is open Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm
