The Van Buren Conservation District (VBCD), along with our partners, have exciting news! The VBCD has a new chance to recycle tires more frequently than a few collection event days a year for Van Buren County residents and landowners.
This new service increases tire recycling from our current one-day collection events. Increased recycling is possible through the Michigan Environment, Great lakes, and Energy 2024 Scrap Tire Grant. VBCD received a total of $148,500.00 from the grant program. Funds will cover our collection events, drop-off sites, and tire recycling in our partner communities. Our partners for this grant include: counties of Allegan, Berrien, Branch, Cass, and Kalamazoo.
Huge thank you to our partners in Covert Township, Columbia Township, and Village of Decatur. These communities are opening their sites and hosting tire drop-off locations for the county. These partners have been willing to work with all our communities to make sure we have the best access for all. Each site will host hours weekly, and hours vary by site.
We ask residents to follow the following rules to use the sites:
🛞Passenger and semi tires only
🪪Bring a valid ID
Shows you are a Van Buren County Resident or landowner and eligible for the free service
🚫Businesses cannot drop off tires with this program
🔟Only 10 tires per resident address accepted per day
Sites are set to be open May through the end of October. We hope to further expand this service and continue in the future. We hope our residents take advantage of this great opportunity. The more access we can have to recycling, the easier it will be for us all to work together to keep our communities clean!
