Plastic Free July: Small Steps for a Greener Future

Resource Recovery Logo and a July calendar with a plastic bag with a no mark over top of the bags.

Plastic free is the way to be this July! 🗓️ This month, millions of people across the globe are participating in Plastic Free July, a global movement that helps people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. Reducing our plastic waste is the first step to being clean and sustainable, and every small change counts toward a healthier planet.

Mark Your Calendars: July 3rd

A great way to kickstart your journey is by observing July 3rd as International Plastic Bag Free Day! 🛍️ Plastic bags are one of the most common forms of litter, but they are also one of the easiest to replace. Reuse bags you already have, or opt for paper bags and reusable totes. Challenge yourself to keep the entire day free of single-use plastic bags and see how easy it can be!

Practical Tips for Waste Reduction

Beyond bags, there are plenty of ways to swap disposables for reusables this month:

  • Carry a reusable water bottle and coffee cup to avoid single-use containers.
  • Say no to plastic straws and cutlery when ordering takeout.
  • Choose loose produce at the grocery store instead of pre-packaged items.
  • Focus on properly recycling the plastics you do use. Remember, clean and dry is the rule!
