Recycling Infrastructure Grant Community Updates

COMPLETED PROJECTS

Geneva/ South Haven: 

  • Improvements were made to the site for easier access of vehicles. The driveway was compacted and repaired for easier access to the facility for residents. 
  • The yard waste and compost area was cleared and better established to allow drop off of brush and lawn waste for residents. 
  • Paving was completed for the waste and recycling unloading area to allow a cleaner and better accessible drop off area and pads for the recycling containers to be placed. 
  • Finally, a storage building was erected for future use to collect hard to recycle items. 
  • What can be recycled: paper, cardboard, metal (cans), plastics, scrap metal, yard waste

 

Paw Paw: 

  • The waste and recycling center in Paw Paw underwent a major renovation. This included pouring concrete pads for the recycling containers to sit on, as well as applying asphalt to the entire drive. 
  • The Township updated all of the buildings on site with new siding and roofing
  • Additionally, a new building was added to house an attendant to help with recycling cost recovery. 
  • A new fence was installed along with cameras for site security. 
  • To complete this project, all new wayfinding and educational signage was added. 
  • What can be recycled: paper, cardboard, metal (cans), plastics, scrap metal, concrete

 

IN PROGRESS PROJECTS AS OF  1/17/2024

Arlington: 

  • The project will need additional funding for additional gravel on site. The Township is working on getting quotes for the gravel. 
  • The Township is inquiring about additional costs to connect electricity to the attendant building on site. 
  • Signage has been sent to vendors for quotes.
  • The attendant building is complete as well as the concrete pads for the containers to sit on. 

 

Bangor: 

  • Site work was delayed, but it is expected to be completed by the deadline in May.

 

Bloomingdale: 

  • Township acquiring additional signage with leftover funds. 
  • The initial project is complete. 
  • Ground work was done to regrade the driveway. 
  • Gravel was added for site maintenance. 
  • Storage containers were purchased for future hard to recycle items. 

 

Covert: 

  • Waiting on signage to be installed by the vendor. 
  • Will be placing recycling bins in parks in the township. 
  • Waiting on a grant amendment to reallocate funding to equipment

 

Decatur: 

  • Fencing is complete 
  • Site grading is complete and asphalt millings were laid to improve the driving surface. 
  • Attendant building is complete and delivered. 
  • Discussions among community partners on electrical and lighting underway.
  • Signage complete and ready for install
  • Will purchase storage containers for hard to recycle items.
